The Mahavoky Atsimo University Hospital Center (CHU) in Mahajanga has recently equipped itself for colonoscopy surgery. About a dozen procedures were performed free of charge earlier this week, marking a first for the establishment.
The hospital was able to acquire this equipment and organize the interventions thanks to the support of the Embassy of Madagascar in South Africa, represented by Ambassador Toavina Ralambomahay, and Hoby Razafinjoelina, a representative of the diaspora.
“Thanks to this cooperation, we were able to acquire this new equipment and perform our first colonoscopy surgical procedures, offered free of charge to patients. The establishment has thus reached an important milestone in the development of its care services,” declared Dr. Habib Nouraly, Director of the Mahavoky Atsimo CHU.
The introduction of this minimally invasive surgical technique represents a significant step forward in strengthening the hospital’s technical platform.
Colonoscopy allows for the exploration and operation inside the abdomen or pelvis through small incisions, without widely opening the abdominal wall.
