ANOSIBE – Man shot dead in armed robbery

A merchant was shot dead and two others were injured yesterday morning at the Anosibe market. The gunman, who stole approximately eight million ariary from his target, is being actively sought by authorities.

Gunshots rang out at the Anosibe market yesterday morning. Three people were hit during an armed attack. A man, who was carrying a significant sum of money to purchase goods, died on the spot. The other two victims, who were wounded, are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Given the circumstances, it appears the deceased was specifically targeted. The money he was carrying, estimated at around eight million ariary, was stolen. According to information gathered, a single perpetrator committed the attack. Search operations have been launched to locate him, and surveillance camera footage from the surrounding area may assist in his identification.

The shooting occurred in the wholesale grain sector. The victim had just arrived in front of a rice shop when he was targeted as he took out his money. Panic immediately ensued. The assailant also fired at a merchant’s assistant and continued shooting while fleeing, wounding a third person nearby before disappearing into the crowd.

The first victim was found lying on the ground, lifeless and covered in blood, having been shot in the temple. The other two victims sustained injuries to the abdomen and hand, respectively, and were promptly taken to medical facilities.

“The deceased was 34 years old. He was a merchant from Mahazoarivo, known for his regular purchases at the Anosibe market. He usually took a taxi-be to come and stock up. He may have been followed before being shot and robbed,” according to witnesses at the scene.
