Na Tovonirina’s journey ended just short of victory at the J30 Antananarivo international tournament, which concluded on Sunday. Competing in the men’s singles draw thanks to a wild card, the Malagasy player managed to reach the final before falling to Denmark’s Nicholai H. Petersen in three sets: 4-6, 6-3, 4-6.
Despite the defeat, his performance was one of the highlights of this edition held in the capital. In his opening match, the Malagasy representative defeated South African Tyler Stanham in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. He then secured a notable victory against the 5th seed, India’s Ayaan Dev Singh, winning 6-4, 7-6. Although he reached the final, the Danish player proved to be an insurmountable obstacle.
Nicholai H. Petersen also excelled in doubles, winning the title alongside Poland’s Olivier Krupa by defeating the Indian pair of Parth Sane and Pradyumna Tatachar, 6-2, 6-3. In the women’s doubles, the top-seeded Dutch pair of Ysaline Cijntje and Aurora Flecken claimed the title after a hard-fought match against France’s Tahira Bagate and India’s Armani Nalavade, winning 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-8.
This edition of the J30 Antananarivo concludes with foreign victories in all three categories. For Na Tovonirina, despite the disappointment of the final, this experience serves as a valuable step in his progression on the international junior circuit.
