MOZIK’IRAY – Iraimbilanja and Tselatra revive rock memories

Nearly twenty years after their last joint performance, the two bands reunited with their audience at Antsahamanitra yesterday for the second edition of Mozik’Iray.

Rock enthusiasts turned out in force for the reunion of Iraimbilanja and Tselatra, two iconic bands from the 1980s. Several generations of fans, often attending as families, filled Antsahamanitra to celebrate their music. Black outfits, boots, and leather jackets were the order of the day.

The two groups revisited their respective repertoires through cross-cover performances. Eric, the lead singer of Tselatra, performed Iraimbilanja’s “Tao an-tsekoly” accompanied by the latter’s musicians. Conversely, Niry, the lead singer of Iraimbilanja, covered “Mbola ho avy” alongside Tselatra’s musicians.

“It is a pleasure to meet again and remember the old tracks,” said Niry. Iraimbilanja ensured their arrangements were preserved while enhancing sound quality. Singers and musicians gathered for rehearsals ahead of the show.

For three and a half hours, this second edition of Mozik’Iray alternated between individual performances and moments of musical collaboration. After bringing together Kiaka and Iraimbilanja for the first edition, the event this time paired Iraimbilanja and Tselatra, two bands that each boast over 45 years of career, according to the organizer.

Iraimbilanja is now preparing for a regional tour in Mahajanga, while continuing its musical evolution without abandoning its signature sound.
