A student mobilization degenerated into acts of vandalism at the University of Androna-Mandritsara, following an alleged fraud case involving four students during an exam. Rooms and equipment at the institution were damaged during the protest. Journalists who arrived to cover the events were also reportedly targeted.
The tension stemmed from an alleged cheating case. Four students are accused of having cheated during exams. The situation sparked anger among some of their peers, who decided to mobilize within the university.
During the movement, doors were forced open, and furniture as well as various equipment suffered damage. The destruction affected university premises while the institution was supposed to continue its usual activities.
The tension also reportedly spread to the journalists present on site. Having come to gather information and take images, some were allegedly confronted by students. Equipment used for their work was reportedly damaged.
Beyond the fraud case, the events now raise the question of the responsibility of those involved in the vandalism and violence. The institution’s officials are called upon to shed light on the events and take the necessary measures.
