SANITATION – Drainage works progress in Mahamasina

The Operation 2 construction site of the Integrated Sanitation Program of Antananarivo (PIAA2) continues in Mahamasina and around the Barea Stadium.

The construction of culverts has reached a completion rate of 69%, with 876 structures finished out of the 1,323 planned. The second phase of the project shows a progress rate of 34%.

The project also includes the installation of 1,678 meters of collectors, as well as the construction of several concrete structures and road interventions. These works aim to strengthen the drainage network in this part of the capital.

Progress varies across different phases. While the first phase is already completed, the second is currently underway. Overall, the progress rate for Operation 2 stands at 33.93%, accounting for all project components beyond just culvert construction and collector installation.

The execution of the works also involves the temporary relocation of traders located on the affected sites. Some have already vacated the area. For the second phase, the relocation of 449 traders to the Anosy Garden is currently underway to allow work to continue in the affected spaces.

PIAA2 also plans further interventions in the eastern plain of Antananarivo, notably in Besarety, Mahavoky, Andravohangy, Avaradoha, and Anjanahary. Technical studies for Operation 5 are also in preparation.

A field visit to monitor the project’s progress brought together representatives from the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, the French Embassy, the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union, and the Urban Commune of Antananarivo.
