Three suspected snatch thieves, who had previously been incarcerated, were arrested on October 1st in Behoririka, Soarano, and Tsaralalàna. Three days later, two members of a six-person criminal gang were also apprehended, while four others managed to escape.
Plainclothes officers from the UIR (Rapid Intervention Unit) of Tsaralalàna caught the three men in the act on the morning of Thursday, October 1st. According to the police, these suspected repeat offenders continued their criminal activities despite their past prison terms. Shortly after this operation, while officers were still in the Anosibe Andrefana area, another arrest took place: a man suspected of drug use allegedly assaulted his wife, prompting local residents to call for help.
The situation took another turn on October 3rd. A group of six criminals attacked passersby along the Colas Anosibe railway line, specifically targeting students and women. Two of them were arrested, while the other four fled. Investigations confirmed that all suspects were repeat offenders.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be presented to the public prosecutor. The National Police are continuing their search for the accomplices at large and have assured the public that operations to rid the capital of insecurity will continue.
