FANOA RAKOTOSON: ‘Canceling a special stage leads to a huge loss’

The ASA Tana club is organizing the 23rd Rallye Tour de Tana from October 2nd to 4th, which serves as the 4th round of the Madagascar Rally Championship. The night special stage in Analakely was canceled on the eve of the event.

Regarding the procedures for obtaining passage authorization, Fanoa Rakotoson explained that requests must be submitted to the relevant mayors months in advance. However, despite obtaining authorization for Analakely in late July, they received a cancellation notice just one day before the event. He noted a lack of uniform rules for passage fees, which vary wildly between communes—from 40,000 to 3 million ariary—and criticized mayors for exploiting the event, especially since the club itself funds the road repairs.

The financial impact of the cancellations is significant, including non-refundable costs for logistics, equipment rentals (tents, stages, barriers), and fuel. Furthermore, a 21km special stage was also canceled due to rain-induced track degradation, forcing organizers to adjust the route. Finally, security remains a major expense, with the club investing around 5 million ariary to deploy 40 to 50 gendarmes to secure intersections over the three-day event.
