Following their arrest over illegal mining activities at a gold mine along the Ikopa River, located west of the Ambodimanga fokontany in the rural commune of Beanana, Maevatanàna district, Betsiboka region, Nina Rahantanirina, former first MP for Mahajanga and former Vice-President of the National Assembly, along with her son, have been remanded in custody by the gendarmes of the GAPJ (Groupe d’appui à la Police Judiciaire) of Maevatanàna.
