On Wednesday, September 30, the organization Fanjiry mobilized residents from Tsaramasay, Ankorondrano Andranomahery, and Ankorondrano Atsinanana for a major cleanup operation. This initiative, part of a broader social action program, aimed to sanitize the neighborhoods and prepare drainage canals for the upcoming rainy season.
A total of 1,250 people participated in this collective effort. Members of Fanjiry, led by Elisa Randrianirina, supported the participants throughout the cleaning process. Residents from the affected fokontany (neighborhoods) took an active role in maintaining their local environment. “It is important to carry out these types of actions to support our fellow citizens,” emphasized Olga Ramiarinjanahary, national coordinator of Fanjiry. She also urged residents to maintain these efforts daily and take greater care of their surroundings.
The operation went beyond simple cleaning. Participants also received support from Fanjiry, including school supplies for students, 6.25 tons of rice distributed among the participants, and a cash payment of 20,000 ariary for each individual.
Through this initiative, Fanjiry seeks to combine social welfare with environmental sanitation. Cleaning the canals is a crucial preventive measure ahead of the rains, as their maintenance remains a key challenge in mitigating water drainage issues.
