ISLAND GAMES – Madagascar 974 selection and Reunion Island team draw in friendly match

A great evening of football took place between two regional selections. The Reunion Island team is continuing its preparations for the 12th Indian Ocean Island Games to be held in Comoros (August 10-19, 2027). On Tuesday evening, the Reunion Football League organized a friendly match consisting of three 30-minute periods between its A-team and a selection of Malagasy players currently competing in the Reunion Regional 1 and Regional 2 championships.

The two teams drew 1-1 at the George-Lambrakis Stadium in Le Port. Young JS Sainte-Rosienne striker Tojo Nirina Rabodoharisoa scored the only goal for the Malagasy side early in the match (3rd minute). OC Avirons forward Anthony Dequelson scored the equalizer for Reunion at the end of the second period (58th minute). The Malagasy selection was coached by Barea legends Pascal Razak and Mamy Gervais, assisted by Abdou Hassan, and featured CHAN Barea players such as Berajo, Rojo Be, Tsito, Jean-Yves, as well as Zotsara, Baggio, and Dorian.

Madagascar is the defending champion of the Games. Coach Romuald Rakotondrabe’s men reclaimed the gold medal after 30 years by defeating Reunion 1-0 in the final at the Barea Mahamasina Stadium in 2023. This marked the Great Island’s third title, following their victories in 1990 and 1993. Reunion remains the most successful team in this major regional event, having accumulated five titles in 1979, 1998, 2007, 2015, and 2019.
