EDUCATION – Minister of National Education affirms that the State will not back down on the implementation of the new education curriculum

“It is a good program.” The Minister of National Education, Sendra Nirina Rajaonarison, defends the new education curriculum that is set to be implemented starting this school year in general education institutions. Describing it as a “good program” that puts all Malagasy students on an equal footing and clearly defines the scientific or literary competencies of students upon graduating from high school, she asserts that the government will not back down.

“The ministry is open to dialogue, but demanding that we reverse this decision is not the solution. We are in a period of reform and refoundation, so we must move forward,” she stated on Wednesday before members of the Malagasy diaspora in the United States during their meeting with the presidential delegation, of which she was a part.

The Minister also recalled that measures are being taken by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to support the transition of final-year classes to the new L, S, and OSE streams. She refuses to call it a sudden decision, noting that “discussions on this new program date back several years, and private institutions were consulted and participated,” she insisted. She emphasized that schools should have been preparing all this time. She specifically pointed fingers at those who have been against the reform from the beginning and who failed to attend a meeting where the subject of the reform was addressed.
