The former Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Valéry Ramonjavelo, will remain at the Avaradrano prison. The Anti-Corruption Pole (PAC) rejected the request for provisional release or judicial supervision filed by his lawyer, following the postponement of the Boeing 777 case trial—involving aircraft delivered to Iran—to October 27.
The defense lawyer argued that there is no evidence of his client receiving money related to this case and cited the recovery of the former minister’s child following surgery as a reason for his release. He also emphasized that his client has no intention of fleeing, especially given the existing travel ban (IST), and has always complied with legal summons.
Despite these arguments, Valéry Ramonjavelo was denied release, unlike six other individuals involved in the case, including a 74-year-old woman, a courier, a driver, and a security guard. Five foreign nationals and the former Director General of the Civil Aviation of Madagascar (ACM), Gervais Damasy, remain in custody awaiting the October 27 trial.
The court president noted the absence of the plaintiff, the ACM, as well as several accused companies and Maminiaina Ravatomanga, who is currently detained in Mauritius under an arrest warrant. These absences led to the postponement of the hearing.
