This Sunday, the Tropy Ilo troupe will present “Voamaintilany” at Ivokolo Analakely, a Malagasy play that blends love, betrayal, and vengeance.
Some wounds from the past can be passed down from one generation to the next. This is the central theme of “Voamaintilany,” a play written by Nivo Hary, which will be performed this Sunday at Ivokolo Analakely.
The story follows three friends whose relationship collapses following a betrayal, embezzlement, and schemes directed against one of them. Years later, the victim returns, driven by a desire for revenge. Meanwhile, their children, unaware of the past conflicts, fall in love. “The past can have consequences on the lives and futures of children,” emphasizes a member of the troupe.
The title of the play refers to a plant with red and black colors, symbolizing the contrasts of existence, between joy and sadness, hope and disappointment. The performance will begin at 2:30 PM, with doors opening at 1:30 PM. It will last approximately one and a half hours, without an intermission, and will be divided into three parts. Malagasy songs specially composed for the play will accompany the story until the final piece, “Voamaintilany.”
The troupe has also paid special attention to the technical aspects of the show, particularly the audibility of the actors, sound design, and lighting.
Tropy Ilo is celebrating its 18th anniversary this year. The troupe officially joined the FMTM (Fikambanan’ny Mpanao Teatra Malagasy) in 2007. It works to revalue Malagasy culture and theater through creations that mix political satire, humor, and social drama. Its performances aim to raise public awareness, impart life lessons, and contribute to the education of younger generations while respecting “fomba malagasy” (Malagasy customs).
The direction of “Voamaintilany” is handled by Haja Ravaloson, who has been active in theater for several years and is a trainer for several troupes. The play was prepared over nearly a year, with work dedicated to dialogues, movements, songs, and the technical aspects of the production.
