The story of Reko began far from the big stages. In December 2017, Fy Rasolofoniaina and Diary Razafimamonjiraibe started working together, later joined by Zazah Maminiavo and Princia Razakamahefa. Rehearsals took place in a bedroom in Anosizato before the group developed its own unique musical universe.
Initially associated with the name of its lead singer, the group officially adopted the name Reko in 2019. The quartet now consists of Fy Rasolofoniaina on vocals and acoustic guitar, Diary Razafimamonjiraibe on bass, Zazah Maminiavo on drums, and Princia Razakamahefa on electric guitar.
Reko has developed a progressive folk style, built around the acoustic guitar and enriched by various Malagasy musical influences. Over the years, the band has built a repertoire through several albums, including “Andao,” “Misia,” “Fantatrao ve?” and now “Upside Down.”
Beyond the melodies, the group aims to convey messages inspired by Malagasy reality and culture, an identity that helps build a special connection with their audience. This evolution has also been accompanied by the development of Hayra Studio, created primarily for the band’s recordings and rehearsals.
Released in June, “Upside Down” is Reko’s fourth album, featuring five songs in English. For their concert on September 20 at the Palais des Sports, more than forty tracks are scheduled, including new compositions and hits from their repertoire. The band will be joined by several guests, including Jimmy Harison, Ericka Durock from the group TGC, and DJ Sugar Nathan. The show will be presented in two parts, featuring collaborations and covers of Reko’s songs.
For Toky, a long-time fan, this concert is an opportunity to discover the new album: “I have been a fan of Reko for a long time, and it is a great pleasure to be here. I am eager to discover this new album dedicated to their English songs.”
From the bedroom in Anosizato to the Palais des Sports, Reko continues a trajectory built gradually through musical creation, collective work, and loyalty to their audience.
