“Although September 16th was mentioned, our work continues, nothing changes.” Transporters serving the RN7 national road assert their desire to remain at Fasan’ny Karana despite warnings from the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology. They claim that the transfer of the RN7 bus terminal to the Amoronakona bus terminal constitutes a violation of consumer and transporter rights.
For these protesters, the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology’s decision to sanction any bush taxi (taxi-brousse) operating with a clearance other than the one issued at Amoronakona is considered null and void. Furthermore, they state they are still waiting to be notified of the legal text establishing this measure. In the meantime, they intend to continue picking up and dropping off passengers at the Fasan’ny Karana site.
For these transporters, moving to Amoronakona implies that “passengers heading to the Great South must pay additional fees to reach the new bus terminal located on the outskirts of Antananarivo.” “It is a clear violation of their rights,” they denounce. “They have to pay an extra 3,000 ariary for urban transport,” they cite as an example.
These transporters also claim to be disadvantaged compared to some competitors who are permitted to have bus terminals in the city center. They mention, among others, bush taxis offering premium services that have their own parking sites. They cite the example of cooperatives and other transport companies with stations in Anosibe, Andavamamba, Behoririka, or even Talatamaty.
On Thursday, during a press conference, the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Herizo Ramanambola Andrianavalona, indicated that bush taxis not departing from the Amoronakona station risk having their vehicles impounded and their cooperatives’ licenses revoked.
