Starting this weekend, surprise inspection operations targeting buses will be deployed in Antananarivo and on national routes. This initiative follows the creation of a “National Task Force,” established after a series of recent fatal and injury-causing accidents. “The operation will be conducted daily in Antananarivo and on national roads. We will verify the maintenance status of the vehicles, lighting, and compliance with specifications. Vehicles in violation will be immediately impounded,” a source close to the matter warned yesterday.
This entity was created in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic of Madagascar following a concerted meeting between the relevant services. It brings together the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, the Urban Commune of Antananarivo, the General Directorate of Road Safety, the Police Prefecture, and law enforcement agencies. “The main objective remains the protection of the lives of all road users.”
