A new beginning. The Indian Ocean Women in Politics Platform – Madagascar section (PFPOI Madagascar) aims to relaunch its activities and strengthen its role in promoting women’s participation in political life. Céline Nathalie Razafindehibe, elected president during the general assembly on September 2 for a three-year term, intends to strengthen the structure and its presence on the ground.
The new president succeeds Monique Andréas Esoavelomandroso, the founding president of the platform, who passed away 18 months ago. She wishes to anchor her mandate in a dynamic of reconstruction and revitalization of the organization. Her priorities, she emphasizes, focus on institutional strengthening, the promotion of gender parity, and women’s access to decision-making positions.
The establishment of the new national bureau is the first step in this reorganization. PFPOI Madagascar then plans to strengthen its presence in the country’s 24 regions by appointing regional coordinators. This territorial organization is intended to ensure a ‘balanced and inclusive’ representation and bring the platform closer to the realities on the ground.
PFPOI Madagascar also plans to develop a common strategic agenda to enhance its ability to intervene in public policy debates and advance women’s representation in decision-making spaces. Training, intergenerational mentoring, and dialogue with political parties are among the means envisaged.
The platform intends to address the obstacles that still hinder women’s political participation, including access to candidacies, campaign financing, access to responsibilities within parties, as well as political violence and intimidation.
Finally, the new team wishes to strengthen ties with other women’s organizations and PFPOI partners in the Indian Ocean. The goal is to consolidate a platform capable of better amplifying women’s voices in governance spaces.
