The Ministry of Communication and Culture has decided to honor the founder of the Sobahya festival, Bachir Soujay Adehame. The former senator and chancellor was elevated to the rank of Commander of Arts, Letters, and Culture. The head of the Boeny region, Adakalo Nasolo, presented the decoration at the recipient’s home, accompanied by the organizing committee of the 20th edition of the Sobahya festival. The recipient was unable to attend the recent cultural event in Katsepy due to health reasons.
“This title was awarded to him by the Ministry of Communication and Culture, led by O’Gascar Fenosoa, in recognition of his commitment and significant contribution to the promotion of arts and culture,” stated the regional head.
On this occasion, Bachir Soujay also addressed a message to the organizers, sharing advice and experiences accumulated over the past 20 years—lessons he considers essential for the sustainability and development of the Sobahya festival.
The ceremony also served as an opportunity to review the 20th edition, in the presence of this year’s organizing committee president, Saïd Jaffar. The improvement of the Antalaotse museum (tranombakoka), located in the rural commune of Katsepy, was among the key topics discussed.
The importance of protecting, preserving, and promoting this heritage was emphasized, ensuring it becomes a valuable legacy to be passed on to current and future generations. The meeting’s objective demonstrates a collective commitment to protecting and promoting culture, arts, and heritage, which serve as unique and unifying assets for the community of the Marambitsy region.
