The first edition of the Gold Fair is taking place from September 1st to 6th in Brieville, in the Betsiboka region. The event highlights the mining potential of the commune. On the sidelines of this event, a meeting with the mayors of the Tsaratanàna district served as a reminder that Brieville is one of the main gold production basins in the region, home to thousands of artisanal miners and numerous collectors. The municipality aims to make this locality a hub for the gold sector, capable of stimulating the local economy and attracting investors through this event.
The fair, featuring various stands, cultural activities, and sports meetings, includes the participation of key sectors such as telecommunications, health, and rural microfinance. The Director General of the Madagascar Gold Center (COM), present at the event, presided over the official opening.
The formalization of actors through the issuance of artisanal miner and collector cards, as well as the granting of export licenses, is part of the State’s strategy to regulate the sector. The objective is to build a legal value chain, from extraction to export, to ensure that the commune and the region receive mining royalties and economic benefits. Technical officials from the COM detailed to the elected officials the procedures for issuing cards, authorized zones, and their validity periods during the occasion. This initiative is intended to sanitize the sector so that local production primarily feeds into authorized channels.
