Malagasy artist Babaïque has been evacuated to India to continue treatment for heart failure, which developed following a months-long battle with cancer.
The 55-year-old artist required urgent specialized care. According to his family, he arrived in India yesterday to address complications that arose after nearly a year of chemotherapy. Before his departure, he was treated at the Befelatanana Hospital.
FalyBicky, a member of the Babaïque group, stated that the artist had been battling cancer for about a year with positive progress, but his condition deteriorated recently due to heart failure. The family has launched an appeal for financial support to cover the ongoing medical costs in India.
The evacuation was made possible through the support of various entities, including Mamy Gotso, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Ministry of Communication and Culture. The family expressed deep gratitude to all supporters, including the Manavao and Fanjiry associations, Fidelis Manager, fellow artists, and the public.
Born on February 26, 1971, David Baba Jean David, known as Babaïque, is a prominent figure in Malagasy music, famous for his slow ballads and salegy tracks such as “Anao Tiako.” He has also composed numerous hits for other artists like Bodo and Lianah.
