NATIONAL LIFE – Irmar expresses readiness for political dialogue but sets conditions

The political platform supporting former Head of State, Isika Rehetra Miaraka amin’i Andry Rajoelina (Irmar), responded to the call of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of the Refondation, this Wednesday at Iavoloha, as part of the consultations for election preparations. This opposition platform stated it is ready for political dialogue but has set specific conditions.

Among these conditions are the “unconditional release” of those the group refers to as “political prisoners,” as well as the return of political exiles. Irmar also demands an end to what it describes as “arbitrary arrests and prosecutions,” “political persecution” of opponents and members of the former regime, and the “effective guarantee of public freedoms, fundamental rights, and the free exercise of political activities.”

The group emphasized in a statement released after the meeting at the State Palace that appeasement measures and international recommendations should also be implemented. Irmar specifically recalled the recommendations made by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) during the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government held online on June 29, 2026. It believes these measures would allow for “engaging in any effective negotiation for the restoration of constitutional order.”

During the first day of consultations, the President of the Refondation received representatives of pro-government groups at Iavoloha. It was the opposition’s turn to begin discussions on this second day. In addition to Irmar, the Gascar movement and the SIAP group, which are favorable to the government, were also present.
