Accused of involvement in local methamphetamine trafficking, a tour guide was acquitted yesterday due to lack of evidence following his trial at Anosy.
The trial took place in Room 5 of the Anosy Courthouse. Two defendants appeared before the court. The first, a father and tour guide residing in Anosibe, was acquitted. His co-defendant, a water carrier from the same neighborhood, was sentenced to one year in prison. Having been incarcerated since June 14, 2025, he has already served his sentence, which was deducted from the final ruling.
According to the indictment, police seized small quantities of “rôrô” (a heroin derivative), methamphetamine, and other narcotics from the water carrier, who was suspected of acting as a delivery person. Police also searched the tour guide’s home, discovering drugs in a refrigerator and a garage.
The tour guide denied the charges, stating he was in Mahajanga with tourists at the time and that the items belonged to his sister, who lived on the upper floor of the house. He claimed he was unaware of the contents of the packages. His sister remains at large and was sentenced in absentia to three years in prison.
