Four people lost their lives in a pirogue shipwreck on Lake Alaotra on Saturday, August 29.
The boat, which departed from Anororo around 2:30 PM heading to Amparihimpony, was carrying nine members of the same family. Alerted in the early evening, gendarmes from the Imerimandroso brigade, assisted by those from Ambohidava, arrived on the scene to organize rescue efforts and coordinate searches with local residents.
Six passengers were found in the first hours: one deceased, four injured who were taken to the Imerimandroso health center, and one survivor unharmed. Three people remained missing at that time, mobilizing the community in a vast search operation.
The following day, Sunday, August 30, two bodies were recovered. The last missing person was found yesterday morning, bringing the total number of victims to four. Five people survived the tragedy.
The Imerimandroso brigade is continuing the investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. According to initial reports, the pirogue sank in the waters of Lake Alaotra shortly after its departure.
