Solonirina Raharijaona is back in action. Having led the Barea U23 team in 2023, he has just been entrusted by the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF) with the preparation and organization of Madagascar’s participation in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. He will be assisted in this mission by former FC BFV player Hery Nirina Ralison, also known as Néné.
According to the FMF, their responsibilities include setting up the technical staff and appointing scouts to identify players both abroad and, more importantly, within Madagascar. Solo Raharijaona, who led the Barea U23 during his time with the Union of Malagasy International Footballers and Sports Executives (Uficasm), brings significant experience to this role. In 2023, Uficasm conducted a nationwide tour across Madagascar to scout young talent.
For the new head of the Barea U23, time is short, and there is little momentum for preparation. However, he expressed his commitment to doing their best, citing several reasons for accepting the mission.
Madagascar will face the Comoros in the first preliminary round, with a double-header scheduled between September 28 and October 6, 2026. If they qualify, the Barea U23 will face South Africa in the second round.
