Regional Budget Conference: Priorities Highlighted

The regional budget conference, organized for the preparation of the 2027 Finance Law for the Atsimo Andrefana region, was held yesterday at the regional hall in Mitsinjo Betanimena.

Decentralized services, local government representatives, economic operators, civil society organizations, and technical and financial partners participated in the meeting.

The regional directorate of Economy and Finance adopted an unconventional method by directly inviting participants to express their priority needs by a show of hands. Originally scheduled for three hours, from 9 a.m. to noon, the meeting was extended by nearly two hours.

The rehabilitation of irrigation canals, particularly on the northern axis of Toliara, was among the main requests. The regional director of Agriculture noted that the Bevoay intake had recently been desilted, but emphasized the need for better water management now that the canals have been cleared.

A revision of customs duties, particularly at the port of Toliara, was also requested. The rehabilitation of the natural swimming pool in Bezaha, which has been requested several times in previous budget conferences for tourism development, was brought up again.

The regional directorate of Communication and Culture requested internet connections for its district delegations. The Population directorate sought funding for the deployment of care centers in Beroroha and Benenitra. The regional civil society organization also requested the provision of an office space.
