International arrivals to Madagascar remained generally stable in the first half of 2026, showing a slight increase of 0.75% compared to the same period in 2025. The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts clarified the figures recently published by the National Institute of Statistics (Instat) in its economic dashboard, following a confusion in data processing.
A total of 151,532 international arrivals were recorded during the first six months of 2026, compared to 150,757 during the same period in 2025, according to data provided by the Ministry. This represents a growth of approximately 0.75%, a level the Ministry considers still low.
“During the first 6 months of the year, the number of international arrivals in Madagascar reached 151,532. Compared to 2025, this represents a slight increase. In 2025, 150,757 arrivals were recorded for the same period,” stated Arilala Léa Razanamaria, Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.
This clarification follows an error identified in the statistics published by Instat. According to the Ministry, a confusion occurred during data processing: figures corresponding to the first three months of 2026 were mistakenly used to present the performance of the first half of the year. A correction has since been made.
For the Ministry, these data are essential to measure the impact of actions taken to promote Madagascar as a destination and to identify the challenges the sector continues to face. “The handling of figures is important. They constitute one of the variables used to measure the efforts made by all stakeholders to promote Madagascar in the tourism sector,” emphasized Arilala Léa Razanamaria.
Despite the slight increase recorded in the first half of the year, the Ministry believes the results remain insufficient. It affirms that sector stakeholders are continuing their efforts to support tourist traffic and strengthen the momentum of the Madagascar destination.
