August is a productive month for the Reformed Church of Madagascar (FJKM), filled with events, gatherings, and testimonies of faith. Following a national pastoral retreat that brought together 1,300 pastors, over 25,000 young members of the Sampana Tanora Kristiana (STK) branch from 39 provincial synods are currently gathered in Nosy Be for a major national event.
This 13th edition of the grand STK youth gathering, which runs from yesterday until Sunday, August 30, serves as an opportunity for evangelical tourism. The event is themed around John 15:16: “STK, chosen by Christ, work with perseverance, be productive.”
The objectives of this meeting are to deepen faith, foster cultural exchange among the 39 synods, and host various cultural, artistic, and sports competitions. Sports tournaments, including football, basketball, volleyball, and pétanque, began last Tuesday.
The official opening was marked by a service at the Dar es-Salam football stadium. Despite hundreds of participants still en route, the venue was packed with a massive crowd. Since last Monday, Nosy Be has been buzzing with the presence of these young Christians. Local authorities and organizers have implemented strict security measures, with the EMMO (Mixed Operational Staff) securing three main sites. Participants are accommodated in approximately thirty public and private schools as well as local FJKM churches across the island, spanning from the city center to Ambatoloaka, Dar es-Salam, Dzamandzar, and Andilana.
