Ten thousand households in Greater Antananarivo will be able to benefit from water connections to the Jirama network at a promotional rate of 30,000 ariary, as part of the Drinking Water Access Improvement Project (Paaep). The necessary equipment and connection works will be covered by the project.
In its first phase, the program targets ten fokontany in Greater Antananarivo, specifically neighborhoods where existing infrastructure technically allows for new connections. These include Ankadindratombo, Manarintsoa Atsinanana, Antetezanafovoany I, Faliarivo Ambanidia, Angarangarana, Anosibe Andrefana I, Ankerana Ankadindramamy, and Anosivavaka Ambohimanarina. The list also includes Tanjombato and Ankorondrano, where initial information campaigns have been conducted since August 22.
This new connection program follows activities already undertaken within the framework of the Paaep, notably the resumption of pending connections and the replacement of obsolete meters carried out by Jirama. These interventions aim to improve access to the existing network and allow more households to benefit from it.
The first phase of the new connection program will span nine months. Awareness-raising visits have begun to inform residents about the technical conditions to be met and the procedures to follow. Investigators are then expected to visit the concerned fokontany to identify households that meet the necessary criteria for connection.
Selected households will be officially notified and will be able to initiate the necessary steps to complete their connection. Other neighborhoods could be included in future phases of the program.
The Paaep is funded by the World Bank and aims to improve access to drinking water in Greater Antananarivo. The project includes interventions on infrastructure and the distribution network, as well as actions intended to bring access to drinking water closer to households.
