The construction cost of the Barea Stadium in Mahamasina is reportedly significantly higher than the 77 million dollars announced by the previous authorities. Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, President of the National Assembly, mentioned an amount nearing 120 million dollars, based on evidence gathered by a parliamentary commission.
The President of the Lower House presented this figure on Tuesday during his opening speech for the extraordinary session of Parliament in Tsimbazaza. “We were told that the construction of this stadium cost 77 million dollars, whereas it is much more than that,” he declared.
According to Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, documents examined by the parliamentary commission tasked with reviewing public affairs management during the presidency of Andry Rajoelina from 2019 to 2025 reveal expenditures exceeding the amount previously communicated for this sports infrastructure.
The President of the National Assembly believes these findings should help establish the actual cost of the project and determine how the funds were utilized. He emphasized that the commission’s work is intended to address questions regarding stadium-related expenses.
Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko also suggested that the creation of this inquiry commission is “neither a political vendetta nor a desire to hold any prejudice.” Other matters are also being examined by the parliamentary commission, including the management of donations received during the Covid-19 pandemic period, according to the President of the National Assembly.
