Promoting the next generation. The Malagasy Volleyball Federation continues to decentralize and popularize large-scale national competitions dedicated to youth. The Madagascar U15 and U21 Cup is taking place from August 22 to 29 at the Ampisikina sports complex in Mahajanga, following the U19 tournament in the capital in March and the U13-U17 tournament in Fianarantsoa at the end of July.
Three clubs made an impressive start this weekend. The Majunga Volleyball Club (MVBC) from Boeny and the Saint-Michel Sports Association (ASSM) from Analamanga achieved a flawless record of three victories in as many matches during the first day on Saturday. The host club, MVBC, secured a double in the U15 category. The boys won a suspenseful match 3-2 against AMVB Mandroseza, and the girls also defeated the same club from Analamanga 3-0.
In the U19 girls’ category, the Majunga team defeated EVBI from Ihorombe 3-0. The Saint-Michel team also secured two victories in the U15 girls’ category. Their first team beat the host team, Sainte Jeanne d’Arc, 3-0, while the second team narrowly defeated EVB Ihosy 3-2.
In the U21 category, the boys from Amparibe defeated ECVB 3-0. The National Gendarmerie Volleyball (GNVB) from Analamanga recorded three wins and two losses on Saturday. In the U21 boys’ category, the Gendarmes defeated their main rival, Akany Sambatra Itaosy (ASI), 3-1, while the girls beat VBC Diamant from Analamanga 3-0.
In the U15 boys’ category, GNVB1 dominated their second team 3-0. The girls, however, lost to CRJS from Atsinanana 2-3. Thirty-three teams are competing in this national cup, including fourteen in the U15 category and nineteen in the U21 category in Mahajanga.
