He continues to climb the ranks. 19-year-old swimmer Baritiana Mathieu Andriampenomanana from the Managing club continues to expand his achievements. This weekend, during the Madagascar 25m pool championships in Mahajanga, Baritiana set five new national records, including two individual records (200m freestyle, 400m freestyle) and three in relays (4x50m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle, and 4x100m medley).
“My short-term goal is to secure a scholarship, continuously improve national records, and participate in the next World Championships. In the long term, I aspire to win a continental title and participate in the Olympic Games, reaching at least the semi-finals of the Olympics or World Championships,” says the country’s top-ranked swimmer for the 2025 and 2026 long-course seasons.
The multiple-time Madagascar champion and record holder was a silver medalist at this year’s African Championships. In 2024, he won five gold and two silver medals at the ANOCA Zone 7 U17 Games. He also secured a bronze medal at the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games held on home soil. His international experience includes the 2024 World Championships, 2023 World Junior Championships, and various African junior and open-water competitions.
Regarding his studies, the star swimmer is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in economic and financial analysis. “It’s just a matter of organizing my schedule well. It’s not complicated for me because most of my courses are remote,” he explains. Balancing intense training with academic life, Baritiana follows in the footsteps of his father, a former swimmer. Outside of the pool, he is a general sports enthusiast and enjoys video games.
