“If certain contracts are no longer suitable or do not correspond to current realities, they will be re-examined.” The Director General of Jirama, General Hajatiana Rasolomanana, announced measures to improve electricity supply in various regions of the country. This includes the revision of contracts concluded with private electricity producers that are no longer adapted to the current realities of the sector. He noted during a visit to Amoronankona on Thursday that steps are being taken with the supervisory ministry to identify these contracts.
In the same vein, the Director General of Jirama called on private producers to respect their contractual commitments and to “take their responsibilities” in the face of current network difficulties. His statements come as Jirama faces the low-water season, which affects hydroelectric production, thus requiring more intensive use of thermal power plants, particularly on the Antananarivo interconnected network.
Jirama is also working with the General Directorate of Meteorology on artificial rain operations. The objective is to support the water resources of hydroelectric dams, strengthen their production, and gradually reduce the reliance on fuel.
The Director General of Jirama warned that power shedding is unlikely to disappear completely this year. Its reduction will have to be gradual, as the various measures initiated by the State, Jirama, and private producers allow for the improvement of production and the supply of the national electricity grid.
