The Soavinandriana Hospital Center (CENHOSOA) is celebrating its 135th anniversary. The official ceremony was held on August 19, in the presence of several authorities and government members. Founded in 1889 during the reign of Queen Ranavalona III and officially opened on August 13, 1891, the establishment is currently under the supervision of the Ministry of Armed Forces.
With approximately 500 beds, the Cenhosoa provides care for both civilian and military patients, particularly within its specialized departments. Infrastructure development is also among the hospital’s priorities. Water supply, which was previously a challenge for patients and staff, has been improved through collaboration with the government. Solar-powered equipment is also set to be installed to ensure 24-hour lighting.
Other works are planned as part of the 135th-anniversary celebrations, including the expansion of the functional rehabilitation center, the construction of a reception area for patients’ relatives, and a dedicated space for breastfeeding. The redevelopment of the helipad and the construction of sports facilities are also among the projects. Ultimately, the Cenhosoa aims to become a reference hospital in the Indian Ocean region.
