Fatal Accident on RN2 at Ampasipotsy Gare: Truck Driver on the Run

A driver is being actively sought after abandoning his semi-trailer following a fatal accident that occurred on Monday evening, around 7:30 PM, on the RN2 at Ampasipotsy Gare, in the Moramanga district. The heavy goods vehicle rear-ended a broken-down minibus parked on the side of the road. The minibus was carrying vacationers traveling from Antananarivo to Foulpointe.

The collision resulted in the deaths of two passengers, a man and his sister, and left three others injured, who were subsequently hospitalized in Moramanga. Some passengers were inside the minibus, while others were inspecting the engine when the truck struck. The vehicle was propelled forward, crushing those who were in front of it.

According to the Andasibe gendarmerie station, the truck’s co-driver, who was sleeping, only woke up at the moment of the impact. Search efforts are ongoing to locate his colleague.

The road, which is straight but has a slight incline, was plunged into darkness. It is believed that the truck’s faulty headlights prevented the driver from spotting the minibus. An investigation has been opened to determine liability.
