Following previous operations targeting tinted windows and LED lighting, a new phase of awareness-raising has been announced before the strict enforcement of current regulations resumes.
Tinted windows and LED lights are back at the center of road traffic discussions. A meeting dedicated to road control and safety was held at the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, attended by land transport services, the police, the gendarmerie, the prefecture, and the Urban Commune of Antananarivo.
Awareness must precede strict enforcement. Users will be informed of the current provisions before controls resume. Proposals regarding the modification of financial penalties and vehicle immobilization measures were also discussed. Their content will need to be communicated before any potential implementation.
Taxi-be (public transport minibuses) are also affected by these measures. U-turns performed outside of designated routes were specifically addressed. This practice is denounced when it alters the planned route and penalizes passengers. Compliance with carrier specifications was also among the points discussed.
The meeting also focused on the coordination of the various stakeholders responsible for controls. The relevant services must harmonize their roles and actions on national roads.
After a period of controls targeting tinted windows and LED lights, the return to awareness-raising constitutes a new step. However, the precise date for the resumption of controls has not yet been communicated.
