ACCIDENT – A motorcycle ends up in a pond

A motorcycle ended up in a drainage canal bordering the road in Andravoahangy yesterday. “The driver did not see the hole because it was completely submerged by water, which caused the fall,” said a witness. Following the rains that fell on Antananarivo, the canal was flooded, hiding the obstacle. This is not an isolated incident. “It has already happened three or four times,” reported another source.

This cavity has existed for a long time without any measures being taken. “Local residents and those familiar with the neighborhood know about these holes. But there is no signage, absolutely nothing, and the hole is left wide open,” lamented a resident.

Andravoahangy is not the only neighborhood affected by these degraded roads that become real traps as soon as it rains. Many drainage canals remain open and are covered by water after downpours. “Measures really need to be taken, because this will eventually lead to a tragedy,” warned residents. The rain that fell on the capital over the weekend and early this week proved that the water drainage problem is not yet fully resolved. Several sections of road were covered in water yesterday morning, even after the rain had subsided.
