A new university campus is coming soon to the Amoron’i Mania region. The foundation stone for the regional university campus was laid on August 15 in Ankadinanahary, Ambositra. According to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Mesupres), the construction work is scheduled to be completed, with the infrastructure becoming operational by July 2027.
The future campus will be able to accommodate up to 1,500 students. Mesupres stated that it will include four academic buildings, administrative offices, a large amphitheater, a council room, a library, and a cafeteria. A university residence is also planned in Ankorombe, featuring a three-story dormitory capable of housing 472 students.
The project is part of a policy to develop local universities, aimed at gradually bringing higher education closer to young people in the regions. It is specifically designed to allow new high school graduates in Amoron’i Mania to pursue their studies without having to leave their home region.
The training programs offered will be tailored to local needs and realities, with the ministry highlighting fields such as agronomy, agri-food, agricultural equipment, and rural infrastructure. Developing local educational opportunities is also expected to reduce family expenses related to student housing and travel.
The creation of this campus comes amid a rise in the number of young baccalaureate holders seeking access to higher education. The authorities’ stated goal is to strengthen regional capacity while providing students with training opportunities adapted to their environment.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ndaohialy Manda-Vy Ravonimanantsoa, called on the youth and children of the region to get involved in the operation and development of their future university. Beyond the construction of infrastructure, the project aims to create conditions that allow young people to receive training as close to their home region as possible.
