SCHOOL SPORTS – NATIONAL GAMES – Boeny secures a double in team sports

The host region, Boeny, secured a double victory in team disciplines at the National School Sports Games, dubbed “Soma Mavaraka,” which concluded yesterday in Mahajanga. Four sports disciplines were on the program over the course of six days.

The Mahajanga team triumphed 4-0 against Analamanga in the 7-a-side football final for the 12-13 age category yesterday afternoon at the Rabemananjara Stadium. Diana took the bronze after defeating Ihorombe 3-0 in the third-place match. In handball, for the 16-17 age category, Boeny defeated Sofia 15-11. Third place went to Diana, who dominated Alaotra Mangoro 15-4.

In girls’ basketball, for the 14-15 age category, Atsinanana won 52-38 in the final against Analamanga at the Ampisikiny complex gymnasium. Third place went to Matsiatra Ambony.

Titles were also decided in athletics at the Rabemananjara Stadium. Leading the overall medal table, Fitovinany won three gold medals, secured by Benjamin Ratsararivo in the 100m sprint (11.31s) for the 13-14 age group and Amed Ismaël in the 1000m long-distance race (2:43.36). The region also took gold in the boys’ medley relay.

The host region accumulated one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. Matsiatra Ambony and Alaotra Mangoro each took home one gold and one silver medal. Four other regions—Atsimo Atsinanana, Analanjirofo, Atsinanana, and Bongolava—each secured one gold medal.

The national school summit brought together 1,500 students and officials from the island’s twenty-four regions.
