Five individuals, including the director of a private school, have been detained in a fake diploma case uncovered by the Tana-Ville gendarmerie. A total of eleven people were brought to justice for forgery and use of forged documents. One young woman was placed under judicial supervision, while five others were released.
The case began on August 5, 2026, after an official from the University of Antananarivo noted several anomalies in a diploma presented for certification by a young woman who had gone to the Baccalaureate Office to certify a copy of her diploma. The document showed several irregularities and did not correspond to a genuine diploma.
Verifications showed that the young woman was not among the candidates who had passed the baccalaureate. A candidate in 2024 at a private school, she had failed the exam. She was then taken to the Tana-Ville brigade in Betongolo for the purposes of the investigation.
Investigations identified a school director who took charge of individuals wishing to obtain a diploma. Several public agents were in contact with him, including an agent from the Baccalaureate Office, a former secretary who had worked at the University of Antananarivo, a university agent, and a deputy director in charge of a department.
Investigators recovered four fake diplomas, twelve certified copies of fake diplomas, two fake transcripts, and eight certified copies of transcripts. Dozens of identity cards were also discovered at the home of one of the officials.
