With a spectacular rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” Malagasy singer Val finished second in The Voice Afrique.
Val concludes his journey with a second-place finish, confirming his impact on the African music scene. For the finale of The Voice Afrique, the Malagasy contestant chose Michael Jackson’s “Beat It,” delivering a performance that combined singing, dancing, and choreography. Dressed in a black and grey leather suit, he executed gestures and movements inspired by the King of Pop, winning over the audience.
With 25.81% of the votes, Val secured second place behind Beninese singer Saara Houansou, who emerged as the grand winner with 60.08%. Congolese contestant Original Ekwa finished third with 8.52%, ahead of Burundian contestant Dreamer, who placed fourth with 5.58%.
A member of Meiway’s team, Val had earned his ticket to the finale after the knockout rounds with a performance of Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control.” His vocal power and stage presence allowed him to continue the adventure, while the other two Malagasy contestants, Tojo and Faith, had left the competition earlier.
Following the finale, Valimbavaka Herimanjaka Razafimahefa, known by his stage name Val, reflects on the lessons learned from this experience. “Always acknowledge your mistakes to learn better! The road is still long,” he shared. He also thanked his supporters and the show: “Thank you to my followers, thank you to The Voice, thank you everyone, I love you all very much! It was a beautiful adventure,” the rising star confided.
