A new traffic organization plan will be implemented in Mahamasina starting this Monday until October 31. The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) has announced traffic restrictions and the relocation of several taxi-be (minibus) stops around the Sainte Famille Institution and the Barea Stadium in Mahamasina. This reorganization is part of the ongoing works under Phase 2 of the Antananarivo Integrated Sanitation Program (PIAA2).
According to a notice published this weekend, the road section from the Sainte Famille establishment to the 5th Arrondissement police station in Mahamasina will only be open on half of the roadway. The road running alongside Barea Stadium will be completely closed to traffic. The section in front of the police station on Rakotobe Road remains closed as part of the construction and expansion of underground water drainage channels.
Public transport will also be affected. Taxi-be lines 125, 184, 127, 128, and 015, currently stationed near CEG Antanimbarinandriana, will be moved to the Antanimbarinandriana parking lot. On Thursdays, which are market days, their stops will be transferred near Ekar Saint-Joseph Amparibe, the CUA specified.
Diversion routes have been planned for vehicles affected by the closures. Those traveling from Sainte-Famille towards Gerb’Or Mahamasina must pass through CEG Antanimbarinandriana, join the Senate roundabout at Anosy, and then take the Cité des Jardins route before resuming their usual path. In the opposite direction, vehicles coming from the Ambohidahy tunnel towards Ankadilalana must also pass through the Senate roundabout at Anosy and then through Cité des Jardins to continue their journey.
The CUA urges road users to respect the signage and traffic instructions in place to facilitate travel and the progress of the works. Motorists are advised to plan their trips in advance during this period, which is scheduled to last until October 31, 2026.
