The Photography Museum will dedicate a ‘Café-Histoire’ session to the ‘teza’, the iconic commemorative poles of the ancient Betsileo kingdom of Manandriana.
The ‘teza’, emblematic monuments of the heritage of the Malagasy Highlands, will be at the heart of a ‘Café-Histoire’ organized this Saturday at the Photography Museum in Anjohy. Hosted by Professor Narivelo Rajaonarimanana, this meeting will invite the public to discover the history, symbolic significance, and cultural richness of these commemorative poles from the ancient Betsileo kingdom of Manandriana.
Erected in honor of chiefs and high-ranking figures, the ‘teza’ are among the most remarkable expressions of Madagascar’s monumental heritage. They bear witness to funeral beliefs, ancestor worship, the political organization of the ancient kingdom, and the craftsmanship of Betsileo sculptors.
Through this conference, the public will be able to better understand the historical and heritage value of these monuments, which serve as true guardians of the collective memory of the Betsileo kingdom of Manandriana. This initiative is part of the Photography Museum’s commitment to showcasing and transmitting the richness of Malagasy cultural heritage to a wider audience.
