After more than 30 years of collaboration, Poopy and Johary will finally hold a concert entirely dedicated to their shared musical history.
Since the early 1990s, Poopy and the group Johary have continuously thrilled the Malagasy public through their collaborations. Their voices have often blended on stage, giving birth to performances that have become essential. Yet, despite this long artistic complicity, they had never before offered a show exclusively bringing their two worlds together. This anticipation, nurtured for over three decades by their fans, will come to an end with “Kanto Mifameno,” a unique concert scheduled for Sunday, August 16 at 3 p.m. at the CCI Ivato Amphitheater.
Long before this new creation, the two artists had already shared the stage for several shows. These events left precious memories for music lovers and confirmed the musical alchemy that unites the two acts. Today, they choose to reconnect with this history by offering a show built entirely around their partnership. “We have been sharing the stage for many years. Today, we are coming together to relive these beautiful memories,” explains Luk, a member of Johary. Through this reunion, the artists wish to revive the emotions that marked their previous collaborations while offering a brand-new concert.
The show promises a musical journey through the repertoires of both artists. Duets, trios, and ensemble performances will pace the afternoon, alternating between Poopy’s iconic songs and those of Johary. More than just a succession of tracks, “Kanto Mifameno” will highlight two musical identities that have complemented each other for over 30 years.
The concert is also in line with their current artistic activities. At the end of July, Poopy and Johary unveiled the music video for the “Kanto Mifameno” medley, created with Johary members Luk, Mahery, and Gothlieb. This medley opens with “Fitia voarara,” one of the songs that popularized their collaboration back in the day. By choosing this track to introduce the clip, the artists pay tribute to a work that marked their shared journey and remains etched in the memory of several generations of music lovers.
Over the decades, Poopy has established herself as one of the greatest voices in Malagasy music. Her unique timbre, sense of interpretation, and the richness of her repertoire have allowed her to span generations while maintaining a privileged place with the public. For its part, Johary, composed of Luk, Mahery, and Gothlieb, has distinguished itself through its vocal harmonies and loyalty to a musical identity that has largely contributed to its success. Together, they embody the meeting of two worlds that naturally respond to each other.
With “Kanto Mifameno,” Poopy and Johary will not just revisit their most beautiful songs. They will offer the public a concert marked by memories, emotion, and sharing, celebrating an artistic complicity built over the years which, for the first time, will be at the heart of a single event.
