The Kohinoor Sporting Club (KSC) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, marking three-quarters of a century of history, passion, and commitment to football and the youth of the North.
From past glories to future challenges, the club aims to write a new chapter. Originally postponed from 2025 to 2026 due to the national situation, the celebration took place over three days, featuring a city carnival, a reunion meal on the pedestrianized Rue Sainte-Marie, and a tournament at the municipal stadium.
The name “Kohinoor,” meaning “Mountain of Light” in an Indian language, reflects the founders’ ambition to shine beyond their neighborhood. According to long-time supporter Abdou, the club initially brought together the Indian community of Antsiranana before opening its doors to Comorians, Martiniquais legionnaires, and Malagasy people, becoming a true symbol of community unity.
KSC was more than just a football team; it was a gathering place for generations. In the 1990s, the club dominated the football scene in the former Antsiranana province, producing legendary players such as Mabiza, Amady Kafo, and Soamady Hafany, who later became the national coach of the Barea.
Despite facing challenges in the 1980s with the rise of rival club Cosmos and shifting financial landscapes in modern football, KSC remains in the first division. Vice-President Jean Strieland Razafimahefa emphasizes that this anniversary serves as a starting point to rebuild the club, strengthen youth training, and reclaim its place among the country’s elite teams.
