Voary Ranoromampionona is the new world president of the Association of Malagasy Orators (Fikambanan’ny Mpikabary Malagasy – Fimpima). Elected at the end of the association’s sixth world congress held in Mahajanga, she succeeds Hanitriniaina Ravaomalala Andriamboavonjy for a four-year term.
The event brought together orators and defenders of Malagasy culture from various regions of Madagascar and abroad. The election of the new world president was one of the main highlights of the gathering.
As the sole candidate, Voary Ranoromampionona gained the trust of the association’s members to lead Fimpima for the next four years. She becomes the second woman to hold the world presidency of the organization, following Hanitriniaina Ravaomalala Andriamboavonjy, who led Fimpima for twenty years, from 2006 to 2026.
The new president’s mission will be to continue promoting the Malagasy ‘kabary’ (oratory art), strengthen ties between members, and contribute to the preservation and transmission of this art form, which is considered a pillar of Malagasy cultural heritage.
The congress also featured training sessions, experience sharing among participants, and conferences dedicated to Sakalava customs and traditions, highlighting the cultural heritage of the Boeny region, the host of this sixth edition.
During the closing ceremony, organizers announced that the seventh edition of the Fimpima World Congress will be held in Toamasina in 2030. After leading Fimpima from 2006 to 2026, Hanitriniaina Ravaomalala Andriamboavonjy now joins Lalao François Rabenandrasana, elected in 2002, as an honorary president of the association.
